Tips for Garage Door Openers
Keep them rolling
Door Disconnect: Your garage door can be disconnected from the opener
when manual operation is necessary (e.g. Power failure). Pull down on handle
tied to trolley. It will reconnect automatically when the opener is
reactivated.
Door Lubrication: Oil door rollers, bearings and hinges every three months. Use silicone
spray lubricant, or light machine oil.
Door Balance: The opener's automatic safety system works best when door is in good
balance. It is tested manually by opening and closing door. A door is balanced
when it stays in any point of travel while being supported solely by its
springs. If adjustments are needed, call a garage door company.
Door Force: Opener forces can be adjusted at the screws on the sides of the chassis.
Normal force has been preset during manufacture. If necessary, increase force
by turning screws clockwise by two turns with door opening and closing without
reversing.
Opener
Lubrication: Clean and re-grease
top and bottom surfaces of the rail once a year using bearing grease.
Opener operates by itself: Check the push buttons and its wiring. Wiggle the wires, especially at the
terminals. Check for breaks under staples.
Door
Force: If the opener lifts
the door part of the way then reverses, check the door force adjustment. Call a
garage door company if track itself needs adjustment.
Door Springs: Make certain door is not locked down, or otherwise held fast by snow or
ice. Disconnect door from opener and raise door manually. Check doors springs,
if one is broken have it professionally replaced.
Motor Reset: If the motor overheats, it will be stopped automatically by an internal
thermal switch. Allow five minutes for cooling, then press the reset button
located on the body of opener.
